Alert 2009!
Report on conflicts, human rights and peacebuilding
is a study carried out annually by the School for a Culture of Peace at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, providing an overview of the world situation at the end of the year in terms of conflict and peacebuilding. Despite the high number of armed conflicts and social and political situations of tension as well as the increase of hostilities in many contexts, the year 2008 ends up with several contexts that can be highlighted as opportunities for peace in the near future. They comprise negotiating processes, post-war rehabilitation contexts, social and political situations of tension, as well as subjects of the international agenda. Positive factors converge currently on those contexts, which may facilitate positive advances throughout 2009. Alert 2009! also analyses developments and relevant trends in the international scene in terms of armed conflicts, tensions, peace processes, post-war rehabilitation and international involvement, humanitarian crises, disarmament, human rights and transitional justice and the gender perspective in peacebuilding.

The Spanish version of the report has been published by Icaria Editorial and is available in bookshops. For further information please see: http://www.icariaeditorial.com
