Conflict and Peacebuilding Programme:

The Conflict and Peacebuilding Programme team studies and monitors armed conflicts, socio-political crises, peace processes and gender and peacebuilding. The programme's activities include also teaching and field research.

Josep Maria Royo Aspa

Official Master in International Relations and European Integration in Studies. Diploma of Advanced Studies in International Public Law and International Relations. Postgraduate Diploma on Peace Culture. Graduate on Political Science, International Relations specialization. His area of research is the comparative analysis of conflict and peacebuilding and the political economy of naturals resources, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. He is co-author of Alerta! Report on conflicts, human rights and peacebuilding since its beginning in 2002. He is member of the African Studies Group (GEA) of the UAM, and the board of Lafede.cat Organizations for Global Justice.


Jordi Urgell García

Deputy Director of the School for a Culture of Peace. Current research topic: peace and conflicts in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America, and analysis and resolution of self-determination conflicts. He has been associate professor at the UAB and the Ramon Llull University and teaches peace and conflicts in different universities. He is Chairman of the Catalan Council for the Promotion of Peace. He graduated in Political Science (International Relations specialization) with the Extraordinary Award of the Political Science Degree and a Master's degree in international relations and European integration, a graduate certificate in peace culture and the advanced studies diploma (DEA) in international relations international public law.


Ana Villellas

Her area of expertise includes conflict and peace processes in Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia and particularly the Kurdish question. Other areas of interest include the gender dimension in conflict and peace building as well as the impact of armed violence on civilians. She teaches about conflict and peace-building in the OSCE area in undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) among others. She has also worked as OSCE election observer, freelance translator and journalist. She has a Masters in International and European Politics from the University of Edinburgh, a graduate diploma in Culture of Peace (UAB) and a BA in Journalism (UAB).

Pamela Urrutia Arestizábal

Her field of research is armed conflicts, socio-political crises and peacebuilding analysis in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA Region). Her areas of interest also include the gender perspective in conflict and peacebuilding at MENA region. Co-author of the yearbook Alert! since 2009, she has participated in several publications and international research projects. She lectures and is author of articles and reports on her area of expertise. Master in International Relations by the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), she also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Communication on Conflicts and Peace (Autonomous University of Barcelona), and a graduate degree in Social Information/Journalism (Catholic University of Chile). Since 2013, she is member of the Board of the Spanish Association of Research for Peace (AIPAZ).
