The programme monitors current armed conflicts and non-armed conflicts that have yet to be resolved, in order to analyse exploratory talks or formal peace negotiations, and perform a comparative analysis of the components of all these processes. This monitoring is the basis for the chapters on peace processes in the publications Barómetro (quarterly) and Alerta! (yearly), and for the production of the Peace Processes Yearbook.

The Programme also seeks to highlight some contexts and some occasions where a specific contribution seems to be fit. This emphasis is embodied in the Colombia Programme.

This eighth edition of the Yearbook on Peace Processes analyses conflicts in which negotiations are being held to reach a peace agreement, regardless of whether these negotiations are formalised, are in the exploratory phase, are faring well or, to the contrary, are stalled or in the midst of crisis.
