Transitional Justice Observatory The Observatory monitors the transitional justice processes undertaken by states that have undergone an armed conflict and aim at building peace while demanding accountability from those responsible for human rights violations committed in the past. Transitional Justice (TJ) is a relatively new discipline introduced when a society goes through a political transition period to leave behind either a dictatorship or an armed conflict and move towards democracy. In this context, TJ is applied, in a delicate balance, to start the road to peace and bring an institutional response to hold those responsible for human rights violations and violations of the international humanitarian law accountable for their crime. Also to guarantee the right of victims to know the truth and demand justice and reparation, and to adopt institutional reforms to overcome the conflict. |
